Region's lifestyle media backs 106.6 Jump FM

07.01.2002

The East Midlands’ leading lifestyle publications today lined up to back 106.6 Jump FM. The regions’ entertainment and listings magazines, “69 Magazine” and “City Lights” are part of the founder shareholders and bid team for the new station, which aims to give listeners in the region the best mix of dance, modern rock, alternative, R&B, Rap & Hip Hop plus relevant local and lifestyle information.

In addition to 69 Magazine and City Lights, some of the biggest names in media are behind 106.6 Jump FM. These include UK youth dance brand Cream; Northern Ireland’s ITV broadcaster, Ulster TV plc (UTV); European radio operator Eurocast, and Absolute Radio International, which was formed by a group of radio industry experts.

Published bi-monthly, 69 Magazine is the Midlands' award-winning lifestyle and entertainment publication and reaches over 100,000 young adults. East Midlands clubbers are also familiar with the "Soixante Neuf" and "Studio 69" club nights, staged by the magazine’s owners, The 69 Group, at their own venue, Weavers - which was voted Club of the Month by Ministry Magazine last month.

Now in its sixth year of issue and with a regular readership of over 100,000 adults across the East Midlands, City Lights magazine is published by Leaping Lemon Ltd, which also operates the popular www.citylightsuk.com website.

New Music Radio
Best described as 'New Music Radio', the format that will be adopted by 106.6 JUMP FM was born out of local audience research among young adults. This clearly highlighted music style and preferences are not restricted to just dance, rock or other similarly narrow formats.

A leader in youth and dance culture, Cream will be providing dance-related programming to 106.6 Jump FM. And as the leading authorities on what’s on in the region, 69 Magazine and City Lights will be providing local expertise and content.

As part of the bid process 106.6 JUMP FM has teamed up with CITY LIGHTS, which is bringing local events and content listings to the new radio station via their website at www.citylightsuk.com,

According to Jon Rea, business development director at Leaping Lemon, "We've done our homework into what young adults in the East Midlands want, we've got a group of people with us who have a track record of delivering great radio and we have the backing of serious UK and European media companies."

69 Magazine is helping devise fashion and lifestyle content for the new station.

“With the region’s leading lifestyle media throwing their weight behind 106.6 Jump FM, we’re one of the few bids to include local shareholders,” says Kevin Urquhart, founder director of 69 Magazine. As a result we feel that we have got the right combination to deliver the definitive sound of the East Midlands.”
